How To Tell If YOU’RE a ‘Christmas Creep?’

Christmas Shopping Season Kicks Off In New York City NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 28: Shoppers clog the aisles at Macy's Department store November 28, 2003 in New York City. Black Friday , the day after Thanksgiving and traditionally the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season is expected to be big, thanks to a rebounding U.S. economy that is positioned to drive better sales, particularly of higher-end goods. It never fails! Around this time in mid-October or November you walk into a department store, or your local mall and you see…. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS!

Granted I’ve seen holiday displays up in local stores since Halloween which was not too long ago and before we properly get into the Thanksgiving Holiday, we ALWAYS seem to get that friendly nudge that Christmas is right around the corner just waiting to make a grand entrance in diva fashion.

Cue Mariah Carey defrosting…

Don’t get me wrong because I love Christmas, but I don’t want to deck the halls or go dashing through the snow right now. Can I enjoy Thanksgiving, football and everything that comes with it before I start negotiating with Santa about getting off his ‘Naughty List’ this year? (I’ll save that story for another day)

However, if you are one of those individuals who find themselves already in the Christmas spirit earlier than most then you my friend could be labeled a ‘Christmas Creep!’

I already know what you’re thinking “Shawn, what’s a Christmas Creep?” Well, according to Wikipedia it is defined as a merchandising phenomenon in which merchants and retailers introduce holiday-themed merchandise, decorations or music well before the traditional start of a holiday shopping season.

Now that we know what it is apparently there’s an epidemic because a Mood Media survey found that 41% of retail shoppers say that the festive vibe will make them stay in stores longer, while 33% would start early November, and then there my group of 24% which would rather wait until mid to late November.

Regardless of how you may view it, the holiday season is upon us so we might as well get used to it.

Look on the bright side...At least there’s no grinch sighting!
